INDUSTRIAL FIBERLGLAS TANK NOZZLE & FLANGE REPAIR SERVICES

FRP tank nozzles are critical reinforced openings used for piping, vents, drains, instrumentation, process connections, recirculation lines, and access points. When these connections fail, the structural integrity of the entire containment system is compromised.

Proper fiberglass tank nozzle repair requires far more than surface patching. It demands a technical understanding of the tank's laminate condition, chemical compatibility, structural reinforcement, gasket sealing requirements, flange alignment, and dynamic pipe loads to ensure a permanent, leak-free restoration.

NOZZLE VS. FLANGE: WHAT IS FAILING?

Identifying the exact point of failure dictates the required engineering repair method.

WHY FRP TANK NOZZLES FAIL

Unsupported piping loads

Over-tightened or uneven bolting

Thermal cycling

Vibration or movement

Gasket compatibility or compression issues

Tank settlement

Flange misalignment

Chemical attack

Impact damage

FRP TANK NOZZLE LOADS

Nozzle failures often happen when external piping loads, thermal movement, vibration, or poor pipe support transfer immense stress directly into the tank wall and nozzle reinforcement area.

WHEN NOZZLE LOADS EXCEED THE LAMINATE REINFORCEMENT

If forces surpass the engineered capacity of the fiberglass layup, the composite matrix begins to fracture. You will often observe cracking, weeping, flange leakage, internal delamination, and repeated gasket failure.

ABOVE GROUND (AST) AND UNDERGROUND (UST) STROAGE TANK NOZZLE REPAIR

AST

ABOVE-GROUND FRP TANK NOZZLE REPAIR

Plastech provides exterior and interior repair for ASTs. Whether the nozzle is near the base where static pressure is highest, or a roof vent exposed to UV degradation, we restore structural and chemical integrity.

UST

UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK NOZZLE REPAIR

For USTs, Plastech supports FRP tank nozzle repairs, relines, manways, fitting plates, nozzle modifications, and piping modifications, often utilizing certified confined-space entry protocols.

FIBERGLASS TANK RELINING FAQS

Common questions regarding our repair protocols and timelines.

CAN AN FRP TANK NOZZLE BE REPAIRED?

Yes. Many FRP tank nozzles can be repaired when the damage is localized and the surrounding laminate is structurally sound. The repair should address the cause of the failure, such as flange leakage, laminate cracking, chemical attack, pipe loading, or nozzle reinforcement damage.

WHAT CAUSES FRP TANK NOZZLES TO LEAK?

Common causes include damaged flange faces, gasket failure, improper bolt torque, unsupported piping, vibration, chemical exposure, thermal cycling, cracking around the nozzle neck, or delamination in the surrounding laminate.

CAN PLASTECH REPAIR FRP TANK FLANGES?

Yes. Plastech can evaluate and repair FRP tank flange issues, including damaged flange faces, gasket sealing problems, cracked nozzle necks, laminate damage around the flange, and failed nozzle-to-shell reinforcement.

CAN A NEW NOZZLE BE ADDED TO AN EXISTING FRP TANK?

In many cases, yes. A new FRP nozzle may be added when the tank condition, service environment, wall laminate, and reinforcement design allow for a safe modification. The tank should be evaluated before cutting or modifying the shell.

SHOULD A LEAKING TANK NOZZLE BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED?

It depends on the cause and extent of damage. Localized flange or laminate damage may be repairable, while severe chemical attack, widespread delamination, incorrect nozzle location, or repeated failure may require nozzle replacement or redesign.
